Workshop Report: “Urban Water-Energy-Food Nexus Workshop” – 15 to 17 March 2017 Chennai, India
Prof. Jörg E. Drewes and Dr. Daphne Gondhalekar, Chair of Urban Water Systems Engineering, Technical University of Munich (TUM), in cooperation with the Indo-German Centre for Sustainability (IGCS), Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) and the Sustainable Water Future Programme of Future Earth, organized the “Urban Water-Energy-Food Nexus Workshop” on 15-17 March 2017 in Chennai, India.
The aim of the workshop was to bring together researchers from TUM, IGCS, and other key academic and industry partners in India and Germany and form a WEF Nexus core group. Around 20 researchers actively participated and held input talks as a basis for discussion.
Participating organisations included the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), Government of India; Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), New Delhi; Consortium for Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATS™) Dissemination (CDD) Society, Bangalore; Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; EcoPro, Auroville; BORDA; GIZ; Bavarian Ministry of Environment and Consumer Protection; and others.
The goal of further collaboration is to coordinate a special issue to be published in an international peer-reviewed journal and to formulate a funding proposal.
