Science Council of Asia Conference Highlights Regional Collaboration on Sustainability and Resilience
The Sustainable Water Future Programme is pleased to highlight the continued importance of the Science Council of Asia (SCA) Conference as a major regional platform advancing scientific cooperation, sustainability dialogue, and transdisciplinary collaboration across Asia.
The Science Council of Asia brings together national science academies, researchers, policymakers, and regional institutions to address critical challenges facing the region, including climate change, water security, disaster resilience, biodiversity loss, sustainable development, and socio-ecological transformation.
Over the years, the SCA Conference has played an important role in strengthening regional scientific exchange and fostering collaboration across disciplines and countries. The conference provides a valuable space for dialogue on how science can contribute more effectively to policy, governance, and societal transformation in Asia.
The themes discussed within the SCA strongly resonate with ongoing efforts led by the Sustainable Water Future Programme and the Asia Science Mission to strengthen mission-oriented science, socio-ecological resilience, and science-policy-investment linkages across the region.
Anik Bhaduri, Executive Director of the Sustainable Water Future Programme, also serves as Director of the Asia Science Mission, a regional initiative under Future Earth and the International Science Council that works to connect science, policy, finance, and implementation systems to address Asia’s most pressing sustainability challenges.
Recent regional dialogues, including the Asia Impact Forum held in Bangkok, have further highlighted the growing need for coordinated regional architectures that can bridge fragmented sustainability initiatives and accelerate resilience investment pathways across Asia.
The SCA Conference continues to provide an important mechanism for strengthening these regional connections by fostering long-term scientific cooperation, knowledge exchange, and collaborative approaches to sustainability governance.
As environmental risks become increasingly interconnected and transboundary, platforms such as the Science Council of Asia are becoming more critical for supporting integrated regional responses grounded in science, collaboration, and shared learning.
